Salt & Light - Where Influence and Evangelism Meet

In 1996 John Maxwell and his brother Larry, along with several Christian friends, launched EQUIP with a God-given vision to see effective leaders fulfilling the Great Commission in every nation. As they shared the dream that burned in their hearts, God ignited a similar fire in the hearts of others. As a result, in less than 20 years over six million leaders were trained in every nation.

Having laid a foundation of Biblical servant leadership worldwide, EQUIP is now focused on the Salt & Light Global Initiative, a strategy to equip and mobilize believers to reach unchurched people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. This transformation movement will impact individuals, families, businesses, communities and even entire nations.

What are we going to do for people who will never come to church?

Our Process

Local Church

Step 1: The church embraces the vision to be Salt & Light in their community.

EQUIP provides materials that cast vision and challenge believers through Jesus’ teaching about Salt & Light and lays out a plan to mobilize them into action. The Salt & Light strategy encourages believers to meet non-believing peers where they are and add value to their lives around a topic relevant to everyone – success.

Step 2: Mobilized believers learn how to serve as agents of transformation.

EQUIP provides training materials that churches can use to prepare lay leaders to host and lead roundtables among their peers. When facilitated properly, roundtables are excellent environments for building relationships and learning. Facilitators are equipped to lead with transparency and promote discussion.

Step 3: Trained facilitators go out and reach into their sphere of influence to add value to non-believers in the marketplace and community.

EQUIP provides video and print resources to engage individuals in roundtable discussions called “Essentials of Success,” with leadership and personal growth expert John C. Maxwell. Each week’s session includes an 8-10 minute video of John teaching on the critical components of success, followed by discussion questions, self-evaluation and goal sharing.

Step 4: Roundtables create an entryway to relationships in which the facilitator’s faith becomes relevant to the non-believer.

EQUIP provides a final, bonus video in which John C. Maxwell shares his faith, describing four pictures of God – three that are misconceptions and one that is true to who God is. He conclude with a model prayer of salvation. Participants who come to faith can be invited to church by their facilitator; others might begin faith conversations. Through this, we pray that discipleship begins and transformation takes root.

Associate Trainers

In the spring of 2016, EQUIP began the recruitment of volunteer Associate Trainers who will travel overseas to conduct Salt and Light Global Initiative conferences. Facilitators will be recruited, trained and commissioned in each country to conduct transformational roundtables in their spheres of influence. Salt and Light training materials and roundtable lessons will be translated into the major international languages as quickly as possible. Hundreds of Associate Trainers will be needed for this major global initiative. We are anticipating at least one million transformed lives by year 2020. It is our goal to present each new believer with a copy of the Maxwell Leadership Bible in their own language.

National Transformation Coordinators

We are genuinely grateful to the dedicated international leaders who have faithfully served as our National Transformation Coordinators. Each NTC organizes and coordinates the EQUIP conferences in his/her nation. As the Salt & Light transformational initiative (curriculum and process) is launched globally, the NTC’s will play a vital role in connecting EQUIP with local churches in their countries.
